It is possible for expatriates to marry in Dubai provided they go through their embassy. There are a small number of Christian churches which can perform religious ceremonies; otherwise civil ceremonies can be carried out at the embassy. UK nationals have to post wedding banns a couple of weeks before the service. If couples are married in an English-speaking church, then they will be given a marriage certificate in English. This must be translated into Arabic by a court-approved translator for the marriage to be valid in the UAE. Both of these certificates need to be submitted to the Notary Public Office at the Dubai Courts for certification. The certificates subsequently need to be validated by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs before being returned to the embassy for official authorisation. |
